What we use mindfulness and breathwork for
What a mindfulness and breathwork session actually looks like
You learn and practice specific techniques in session: breath patterns that shift your nervous system state, present-moment awareness practices that interrupt a spiral before it builds. Then you use them outside of session, in the actual moments they're for.
This isn't a meditation class. It's clinical work aimed at a specific problem, usually paired with talk-based sessions rather than replacing them. Your therapist adjusts the practices to what's actually happening in your week, not a generic script.
Why the "not a meditation class" line is there. This is the modality most likely to be mistaken for a wellness add-on rather than clinical therapy. Naming that directly sets the right expectation before someone books.
When mindfulness and breathwork, and when something else
Mindfulness and breathwork fit when you need something usable today, in the actual moment stress or overwhelm hits, not only insight you can apply later. It's often used alongside another approach rather than on its own.
CBT fits better when you want structured tools for a specific thought pattern over a longer arc.
Somatic work fits when the dysregulation is bigger than breath alone can address, more constant and physical than situational.
Most people end up with a blend, and the blend changes as you do. If you're not sure which describes you, that's genuinely fine. Working that out is what the first two sessions are for.
You don't need a breakthrough to start, just a place to begin
Tell us what's been running you down, and we'll work out together whether mindfulness and breathwork is the right way in.
